District 7810 PETS-SETS-Area 3 trainings

District 7810 PETS-SETS-Area 3 trainings brought together nearly all of the 40 Rotary Clubs from New Brunswick and Northeastern Maine on Saturday, April 23, 2016.  One attendee was from neighboring Ellsworth, Maine.  Joining the 2016-2017 Rotary All-Star Team under the leadership of Governor-Elect Virginia Joles, Rotarians learned “Why Rotary” from Ian Ferguson, Assist RI Coordinator, Zone 24E.  Our quest for a Polio-Free World was discussed by PDG Rick Rogers and participants heard moving words about the effects of setting goals and working with others from Lowell Loveday, Assistant Governor, Area 8.  Club Secretaries were taught online tools and administrative requirements by Terry MacDonald, Executive Secretary.  Noel Eustace, Assistant Governor, Area 3, spoke about becoming a Vibrant Club, Iris Sullivan, District Governor 2017-2018 provided tips on communicating effectively, and Governor Wayne Wornes and others shared numerous activities happening with Youth Services.  Building the District with networking was strengthened with a T-Shirt Exchange and pairing clubs to share ideas and encouragement.  A template plan for moving forward was discussed and Twin Clubs were formed, some by speed dating.  Pairings with the following club adoptions are in place:

Chatham and Shediac

Ellsworth and Machias

Rothesay-Kings and Moncton West and Riverview

Florenceville and Gagetown

Newcastle and Resurgo Moncton Satellite

Fredericton Sunrise and Sackville

Oromocto and Bathurst

Cambellton and Moncton

Perth Andover and Dalhousie

Sussex and St. Stephen-Milltown

Presque Isle and Woodstock

Moncton Sunrise and Saint John

The Twin Club adoption concept was met with much enthusiasm, however, some leaders are giving thoughtful consideration and will reach out to another Club sometime next month.  The idea of working together with another Club more than 50 miles away allows sharing successful activities and membership growth and retention efforts, in addition to building friendships.

The weekend was fun.  Lots of new information from the Council on Legislation delivered by Ian Ferguson and details about the Annual District 7810 Conference on August 26-27, University of Maine at Presque Isle were delivered by Floyd Rockholt, Assistant Governor, Area 1.  He noted a Centennial Foundation Dinner where we will showcase each club’s number-one story over the past 100 years and a silent auction to support Foundation projects and funds.

The day’s activities were led by Past District Governor Michael MacPherson, and two Past District Governors stopped by to offer support:  PDG John Carkner and PDG Alan MacLellan.

At the opening, Club Presidents received a theme banner and all participants received a theme pin and district pin.  By video, RI President John Germ introduced the theme “Rotary Serving Humanity” and stressed how each day, no matter how small, we can make a difference.  He urged us to work one day at a time to do good in our communities and around the world.

District 7810’s All-Star Team is ready to play ball beginning July 1, 2016.  It was a great Spring Training.
